Cinder Button was stitching a winter coat for a friend about to make a first journey. The coat was warm and sturdy, yet its owner kept asking for one more brave-looking decoration. Cinder added a small button inside the cuff.
It could not be seen by a crowd. It was there to touch whenever the first step felt difficult. The friend set out before the final flourish was sewn. Cinder waved from the doorway, a spool of courage still on the table.
